Service Spotlight.
In a place like Crockett, Texas, familiarity means something.
Datamax Lufkin Service Technician Mike Slocum has known CPA Dick Murchison since Mike was in high school. He has serviced Dick’s office for more than 15 years. And when the office needs help today, there’s no wondering who might walk through the door.
They know him simply as “Mr. Mike.”
Mike admits he’s “not a big talker.” He doesn’t need to be. Over the years, his responsiveness, expertise, and willingness to go the extra mile have done plenty of talking for him.
Familiar Faces. Familiar Service.
Dick Murchison CPA is a small, two-person operation in Crockett, and Mike has developed a strong rapport with the office over the years, particularly with Tiffany, who has worked alongside Dick for the past seven or eight years.
“I’m not a big talker. I don’t go into an office chit-chatting,” Mike said. “I tend to my business and do the best job I can for them.”
But familiarity grows naturally. Mike gets to know his customers. They get to know him. And when one of those customers is in a bind, that relationship makes him want to respond even faster.
When They’re Down, Move.
That was the case recently when the office’s waste toner container filled and brought their machine to a halt. Tiffany tried emptying the container herself, but the error code remained. Mike knew why. Clearing the code required removing and cleaning a sensor window, a process that required additional tools and know-how.
For an office relying heavily on a single device, downtime matters.
“I try to put people on high priority when they’re down,” Mike said. “It doesn’t matter who it is. I want to go the extra mile and get there as soon as I can.”
Mike got them back up and running.
Trusted Expertise. Earned Over Time.
For Mike, there’s satisfaction in knowing a customer can get back to work. Sometimes that requires jumping through hoops. Sometimes he happens to be nearby. Either way, his approach remains the same: Treat people the way he would want to be treated and do everything he can to get them going quickly.
After more than 15 years serving Dick’s office, Tiffany’s post-service survey says perhaps more about that approach than Mike ever would himself:
"Mr Mike ALWAYS makes sure we are taken care of and we certainly appreciate him!! Keep Mr Mike in our service area please. We depend on him and his trusted expertise.”
After years of showing up, solving problems, and taking care of customers, “Mr. Mike” is about as strong a statement about a service relationship as you can get.
